The Johnsons have been Assemblies of God missionaries to Brazil since 1989, working primarily with Bernhard Johnson Ministries in various areas of ministry. They direct Brazil Extension School of Theology and Brazil Advanced School of Theology, which together have over 21,000 students throughout Brazil and in nine other countries. Since 1979, these two schools have graduated over 40,000 students who are active in their church or are in full-time ministry.
The Johnsons direct Children of Brazil Outreach, that has helped build 15 schools, daycare centers and a hospital in needy areas of the country, besides distributing Bible curriculum and AIDS-awareness materials in public and private schools that are required by law to offer religious education classes. Since 2009, the Johnsons are the representatives in Brazil for Latin American ChildCare and its child sponsorship program, with the Antonette Johnson School in the city of Varginha as their first sponsorship project.
The Johnsons are involved in youth and music ministry in the local church they attend in the city of Campinas, having served for six years as the student ministries pastors and Beth directing three choirs. Terry also serves as assistant pastor for the church in Varginha that was founded by his missionary grandparents, along with its 20 satellite churches in the region.
